Northwestern Province Minister Robert Lihefu has assured Traditional Leaders in the region that Government will continue working with them as partners in National Development.
Mr Lihefu said for meaningful development to be attained in the province there is need for government and all Members of Parliament in area to work with traditional leaders.
He said this in Mufumbwe when he called on chief Chiizela of the Kaonde speaking people.
Mr Lihefu said Government is committed to taking development closer to the people in rural constituencies through decentralization of resources as can be testified by the recent increment of constituency development fund from K1.6 to K25.7 million in the 2022 national budget.
“President Hakainde Hichilema has already started addressing many social and economic challenges people have been facing,” he said.
Mr Lihefu said the Province has remained poor despite contributing massively to the national treasury through the big mines a situation he said will change for the better if people worked together.
Mr Lihefu has appealed to Traditional Leaders to provide guidance and counsel when need be and also support his office.
Meanwhile, the Minister has also called for unity of purpose among all the people and tribes in the Province.
And Chief Chizela expressed happiness that President Hichilema won the August 12 general elections attributing the victory to the confidence people has in him and the party to lead the nation.
He said the new party in power must ensure that it delivers on the campaign promises to the people within five years of its mandate.
