Government gives Kafubu Water and Sanitation Company (KWSC) a go ahead to sign an agreement with a foreign financier for the implementation of a floating solar electricity generation power project in Masaiti.
The Ministry of Justice has given the consent after thorough study of the solar project Memorundum of Understanding between the utility and a named foreign based firm.
KWSC Managing Director Athanasius Mwaba said the document has since been submitted to the Public Private Partnership (PPP) unit at the Ministry of Finance.
Eng Mwaba said the solar project is pegged between $600 to $900 million.
On completion, the solar power project will generate 600 megawats of power on a daily basis.
Eng Mwaba said on completion, the project will create hundreds of direct and indirect jobs for locals.
He said the development of the solar floating power project is expected to resume in the first quarter of 2022.
The Kafulafuta Water Supply System project is 87 percent done and has already gobbled 449 million United States dollars.
Eng Mwaba also said that the generated power will be tapped into the existing National grid and excess sold to major mining firms in neighboring countries.
The Ministry of Energy and the Energy Regulation Board ERB including the Water Management Resources Agency have also endorsed the solar floating energy project.
