(ZANIS) Acting Copperbelt Province Permanent Secretary ROBERT ZULU says gender based violence -GBV- should not be committed in the name of promoting culture and traditions.
Dr. ZULU says the rights of people especially women and children are being violated by people who are using tradition and culture as an excuse to abuse them.
The acting Copperbelt Permanent Secretary said this when Government and United Nations Development Programme joint monitoring team on GBV led by the agency deputy resident representative ROLAND SERI called on him at his office.
Dr. ZULU expressed happiness that a multi-sectoral team of UN partners are helping to curtail GBV issues and other forms of abuse through sensitization and supporting of various programs.
And Mr. SERI said his team is in the province to see various GBV programs that the agency has been supporting which have been implemented in the first and second phases.
He said communities together with traditional leaders are now taking the lead in ending GBV cases.
