Chingola residents cautioned against rearing livestock in residential areas

Chingola Mayor Johnson Kang’ombe has called on residents to observe Statutory Instrument (SI) 100 on stray animals.

Mr Kang’ombe said it is important for residents that rear livestock such as goats in residential areas ensure that they do not become a disturbance or nuisance to others.

Mr Kang’ombe said of recent he has received several complaints from residents that are disturbed by domesticated animals kept in their neighborhoods.

He said the municipality through Public health officers is currently on the ground sensitizing residents on the importance of adhering to the local government’s Act on stray animals.

Mr Kang’ombe also called on all Chingola residents to cooperate with officers from the council during this sensitization period.

He said that the local authority will not condone any form of lawlessness in the district.

According to SI 100 any person who owns livestock and leaves it at large in the street or public places he or she is liable to a penalty of a fine not exceeding one thousand units or imprisonment for a period of less than 3 months or both.
