The Ministry of Education is saddened by the actions of some Head Teachers who have resorted to sending away learners in Boarding schools because of the set mid- term break by Government.
Ministry of Education Public Relations Officer Annita Nachilima said the Ministry would like to caution all Head Teachers not to advise Learners to go home during the mid- break as it is not compulsory.
Ms Nachilima said the Learners must be allowed to stay in school and study.
She said the Ministry has set Friday, October 15, to Monday, October 25,2021 as a mid – term break for learners in all the grades countrywide to facilitate for catching up as schools had two terms (part of term 2 and term 3) compressed into 4 months due to COVID-19.
Ms Nachilima said this entails that learners will have Four months of continuous learning.
She said in view of the above, this mid-term break must not be used as a reason to send away Learners in Boarding Schools because it is part of the school calender for third term.
“We would like to urge the schools countrywide to operate within the stipulated Government guidelines,” he said.
