Patson Daka Scoops prestigious Bruno award for player of the season

Chipolopolo Boys striker Patson Daka’s was on Monday awarded the Bruno award for the player of the season in Austria following his exploits in the 2020/2021 Super League season.

The 25th Bruno Gala was held at the Wiener Stadthalle on Monday and Daka scooped to Bruno awards, player of the season, and the top goalscorer accolade, the players of the professional leagues as well as the players of the Austrian national team voted for the winners.

Daka becomes the eighth ‘Redbull’ to win the prestigious Bruno award for player of the season. Kevin Kampl won it in 2014, Jonatan Soriano in 2015 and 2016, Andreas Ulmer in 2017, Valon Berisha in 2018, Munas Dabbur in 2019, and Erling Braut Haaland in 2020.

Redbull Salzburg was named team of the season, Jesse Marsch who has since joined RB Leipzig was named coach of the season.

The Zambian international scored 27 goals in 28 league games in the 2020/2021 season and also chipped in with seven assists ending the season as the top scorer in the Bundesliga.

Daka already won the Skysports Austrian Bundesliga player of the season, the official Austrian Bundesliga player of the season, and the golden boot in his last season in Austria before moving to the English Premier League side, Leicester City.

The Bruno Awards have been held since 1997 by the Association of Footballers (VdF) in memory of the ÖFB national player Bruno Pezzey, who died in 1994.
