Kamfinsa MP allegedly bribed inmates with K47,000

A Prison Warder at the Kamfinsa Correctional Facility in Kitwe has told the Kitwe High Court that PF Kamfinsa Member of Parliament Christopher Kang’ombe gave K47,000 to inmates and officers prior to the August 12 General Election.

Testifying in the Kamfinsa Parliamentary petition yesterday, William Chisenga said on August 9, Mr Kang’ombe held meetings with all officers at Kamfinsa Correctional Service and asked them to vote for him and the Patriotic Front.

Mr Chisenga said after the meeting, Mr Kang’ombe handed over K27, 000 to the Deputy Officer Commanding Chisanga Siame to give all officers K200 each.

He revealed that the money was distributed to all officers by the accountant Susan Chibwe.

Mr Chisenga further told the court that Mr Kang’ombe also gave 20,000 to all inmates and slaughtered three cattle for the inmates to eat.

He said the carcasses of the cattle were delivered to the inmates on August, 10 by a truck.

Mr Chisenga also revealed that he received mealie meal from Mr Kang’ombe which was delivered at his door step.

And one of the inmates Moffat Matebele testified that he received a K150 from Mr Kang’ombe on August 9.

Mr Matebele, who is a Kamfinsa Correctional Facility Captain, said he met Mr Kang’ombe and all Captains where the politician asked for their votes.

He further told the court that after the money was distributed, there were fights among inmates.

Mr Matebele, who is serving a five year jail term, testified that the Deputy Officer Commanding Chisanga Siame tasked some officers to go round the Correctional Facility to compel all inmates to vote for the Patriotic Front.
