Buildcon’s impressive start to the season was on Sunday put on hold after Super Division newcomers Kafue Celtic edged them at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.
Prior to the game on Sunday, the Ndola giants had won their opening three matches but failed to maintain their 100 percent winning start by going down 1-0 to a Albert Kangwanda’s first half strike.
Celtic were winless in three matches before stunning Buildcon.
Coach Boyd Mulwanda said in a post-match interview that the loss was a wakeup call to his charges as the season unfolds.
“It was a tough game, we expected that, we knew that they are going to come strong on us because Celtic had nothing to lose. They have been fighting to get a win and that’s what they did. And the goal they scored, we just gave it away.
“I think there was a bit of underation, they thought it was going to be an easy game. For them, playing against us was a bit of motivation, but we needed to motivate ourselves knowing we are playing a team we don’t know,” he said.
Mulwanda said his charges have since shifted focus on the next game against Power Dynamos on Wednesday.
Defeat left Buildcon in second place with nine points and surrendered the top slot to Green Buffaloes, who beat Red Arrows 2-1 in a defence force affair
Buildcon beat Green Eagles 2-1 in Choma on the opening day of the season and registered their second successive victory the following week after beating Prison Leopards 1-0 at Nkana Stadium in Kitwe.
Last week the Ndola outfit beat Forest Rangers in a local derby match in Ndola.
