The Provincial administration in the Southern Province has sent a stern warning to procurement officers that it will not tolerate any form of malpractice in the procurement of goods and services in the Province and spelt out three pillars under which the officers should operate.
Southern Province Minister Cornelius Mweetwa says as the custodian of delegated authority from the Republican President in the Province, he will not hesitate to ensure that erring officers were dealt with sternly by the law.
Mr Mweetwa said under his watch, the President’s directive and position on zero tolerance to corruption will be adhered to the latter.
He said that it is time the ordinary tax payer enjoyed service delivery.
“Government expects procurement Council officers to adhere to the practice of quality, timely and rightly priced goods and services in order to benefit the citizens who worked hard to usher in the UPND and its new dawn government, I want to warn the Council against malpractices in the administration of land as has been in the past where its land agency had been suspended by the Ministry of Lands,” he said.
Mr Mweetwa has also advised the local authority to ensure that local and low income citizens of Livingstone benefit from land allocation in the district.
He said land ownership should not be a preserve of the rich and those from outside the city.
Mr Mweetwa argued that land was a heritage which the local people were entitled to and should never be deprived of.
He was ppeaking in livingstone today during the installation of Constance Muleabai as Livingstone City Mayor, and he was accompanied by deputy provincial permanent Secretary Kennedy Mubanga.
And Livingstone Mayor Constance Muleabai promised to place service delivery as the beacon of her administration and called for support from the residents of Livingstone.
The colorful ceremony was attended by Chief Mukuni, former and serving councilors, Heads of Government and corporate entities and residents.
