ZRA ready to engage National Arts

ZRA Commissioner General Kingsley Chanda says the Authority stands ready to engage with the National Arts Council of Zambia and come up with with tax Solutions and initiatives that will be beneficial to all stakeholders.

Dr Chanda said this morning at the  first ever stakeholders meeting with the entertainment industry that included the National Arts Council, National Media Arts and Film Makers Guild of Zambia, at Lusaka’s Pamodzi Hotel.

He said that  the Authority will  ensure that current taxes do not disadvantage the sector.

Dr Chanda has also encouraged the industry to familiarize itself with current tax incentives that Government  has put on offer to the arts.

He said the Art industry has the potential to grow once proper incentives are put into place hence the move by the authority to push for a tax relief for the industry.

Dr Chanda has assured stakeholders in the Art sector that the authority will do its level best to ensure some tax policies are tailored in a way that will help the sector to grow.

And National Arts Council -NAC- Acting Chairperson Agness Nyemdwa disclosed that the current tax system has disadvantaged Artists in Zambia.

Ms Nyenwdwa complained that some of the Artists who are taxed withholding taxes earn way below the monthly minimum wage.
