Chingola Mayor pledges to renovate public Library

Chingola Mayor Johnson Kang’ombe has pledged to change the face Chingola Municipal Council Zikhalo Jere Library.

Speaking during closing ceremony of  the National Library week, Mr Kang’ombe said there is need to improve the reading culture among the people.

Mr Kang’ombe said in the quest to turn Chingola into a city, the Library should be upgraded to modern standards.

“I am disappointed to see this library in those shape, the celling board is ruined, we need to renovate things around so that the Library is welcoming to everyone,” he said.Mr Kang’ombe said that the public Library goes beyond political affiliation.

“I want to assure Chingola residents that the next time we will be having such an event, the library will be modernized so that our Readers may read and study in a more conducive environment,” he said.

Mr Kang’ombe also said that the Library has affordable fees for every resident.

And Chingola Municipal Council Acting Chief Development Officer Victoria Sakala appreciated the role librarians and the library plays in shaping the reading culture.

Ms Sakala called on residents of Chingola to make use of the Library.

And Kalilo ward Councillor Samuel Singwa emphasized on the need to have the library renovated.

Mr Singwa also urged the Management at Zikhalo Jere library to ensure that their appeals to have the library upgraded are followed up.

He said it was unacceptable for residents to study in library with a deplorable celling.

“This new government prioritizes education, that is why it is unacceptable to have this kind of a public Library with a dilapidated ceiling we want to call upon the corporate world to come on board an help renovate our Library,” he said.

This year’s National library week was commemorated under the theme “Welcome to your Library”.
