Zambia will today receive 129,600 doses of the Johnson and Johnson vaccines.
The doses come as the first consignment of 4,400,000 doses committed to be procured by the Government through the African Vaccine Acquisition Trust -AVAT-.
And Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary Technical Services Kennedy Malama said the doses that will arrive this afternoon come as an initiative under the African Union and its Partners.
And Dr Malama said the country has in last 24 hours administered 1,004 doses of Johnson and Johnson, as well as 97 Dose 1 and 26 Dose 2 AstraZeneca vaccines.
He has also disclosed that the 53 COVID-19 cases have been recorded out of the 3-thousand, 826 tests conducted.
Dr. Malama said on a positive note the country has recorded only one new COVID-19 death from the Copperbelt province bring the total number of deaths to 3,617 while 189 patients have been discharges in the last 24 hours.
The Permanent Secretary has further indicated that country’s COVID-19 epidemiological status has continued to improve with 29 percent reduction in the number of new cases reported.
