The Ministry of Health has confirmed the measles outbreak in Itezhi Tezhi District, Central province.
Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary for technical services Kennedy Malama said an investigation into the outbreak has since been instituted.
Dr Malama said a multidisciplinary team from the Ministry has also been on the ground to provide the necessary technical support.
Dr Malama said another team is on the Copperbelt where an investigation has also been instituted in the reported food poisoning cases.
‘The Ministry is further closely monitoring the threat of other seasonal outbreaks through its disease intelligence unit under the Zambia National Public Health Institute, the public and business houses are urged to uphold high standards of hygiene and food safety,” he said.
Dr Malama said that with three months away from a potential fourth wave, the Ministry of health will continue prioritizing preparedness and response.
