The Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) working with the multi-sectoral team have taken precautions to prevent the spread of Covid-19 as parliament officially resumes sittings.
DMMU National Coordinator Chanda Kabwe says the Unit is working with the Ministry of Health and the National Assembly to prepare the building before Members of Parliament reconvene to elect the Speaker of the National Assembly today.
The first Session of the 13th National Assembly is set to be opened by President Hakainde Hichilema on September 10, 2021.
Mr Kabwe said the multi-sectoral team has put measures in place to ensure the National Assembly building is Covid-19 free as Parliamentarians return to conduct parliamentary business.
“DMMU and the Ministry of Health have made arrangements to ensure the facility is kept safe from Covid-19 throughout the sessions until parliament adjourns, we have put wash station in strategic points for the MPs to use while Personal Protective Equipment has also been made available for lawmakers and all the staff operating at Parliament building,” he said.
Mr. Kabwe has since encouraged the public to continue adhering to the Covid-19 health guidelines to avoid the anticipated 4th wave.
