By MAIMBO MWEEMBA
UPND’s Losing parliamentary candidate for Nakonde Constituency has petitioned the result.

Mr Simon Simwanza has petitioned Patriotic Front’s Luka Simumba who won the seat, saying the electoral process is guided by laws that should be followed by politicians seeking to get into office.

Mr Simwanza said it is his right to appeal when laws are being violated, saying that his decision to petition the election result was not out of selfishness.

“My decision to petition that results is in order to defend the democracy that my country, my petition is on violence, malpractice and limited political ground for my party to campaign in Nakonde, and also the PF slaughtered animals and shared the meat with electorates so that they can vote for them, which is not allowed in the laws of our land,” he said.

PF’s MP elect for Nakonde Luka Simumba polled 22,384 votes while UPND’s Simon Simwanza polled 16,826 votes.

Mr Simwanza said that such acts and pratices are likely to twist the outcome of elections considering that Nakonde is a rural constituency.

He said that with the overwhelming evidence that is available, there is assurance that the petition will go in his favor.
