A 31-year-old herbalist of Lukulu District has died after being hit in the head with a stick by a suspected mentally ill patient on whom he was administering traditional medicine.
Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo said Kabambe Kabambe an herbalist died on 20th August, 2021 at about 1700 hours at Lukulu District Hospital.
Ms Katong said Njekwa Mubikwa the mentally ill patient has been arrested and due to his mental illness is admitted to Lukulu District Hospital psychiatric ward while the body of the Kabambe is deposited in Lukulu District Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
Meanwhile police in western province have found the body of Lakin Njipola aged 27 a suspect who was sought for murder of Alexander Nalishebo.
Ms Katongo said Njipola the suspect is reported to have committed suicide by consuming unknown poisonous substance.
She said Police who visited the scene found the body of the deceased in his house.
Ms Katongo said it is alleged that the suspect indicated to his family members that he would rather die than go to prison after information reached him that the person he had assaulted had died.
He is reported to have run in the bush and when relatives followed, they found him 200 meters from his home vomiting. They took him back to his house where he later died
She said the victim is reported to have been severely beaten by the suspect and sustained a deep cut on the head and left arm.
Ms Katongo said the victim was rushed to a local health centre where he died. The reason for the act is not yet known. Police are investigating the matter.
