President elect’s inauguration attendance restricted

Government has restricted attendance to President elect Hakainde Hichilema’s inauguration set for Tuesday, August, 24, 2021.

Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Services Permanent Secretary Amos Malupenga said that to only invited guests will be allowed as part of observing Covid-19 preventive protocols.

Mr Malupenga advised citizens who will not be invited to attend the ceremony to follow the proceedings of on television, radio and online social media platforms.

“I want to encourage invited guests to arrive early to facilitate for security screening procedures, the gates to Hero Stadium, the venue for the inauguration, will open at 06:00 hours and close 30 minutes before commencement of the ceremony, and all invited guests should be seated by 07:30 hours,” he said.

He says the ceremony is in-line with the Constitution.

Mr Malupenga said the ceremony is in-line with the Constitution and further  details pertaining to the inauguration ceremony will be communicated in due course.

And outgoing president Edgar Lungu has declared August, 24, 2021 as a public holiday to facilitate smooth handing the inauguration of  Zambia’s 7th  Republican president Hakainde Hichilema.
