ECL conceding defeat commended

United Party for National Development  Alliance has commended President Edgar Lungu for conceding defeat.

UPND spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa says that the move has set an example for other political parties.

Mr Mweetwa adds President Lungu’s action has left an enduring legacy of statesmanship of his leadership.

“This also serves as a challenge to the UPND Alliance administration to uphold the democratic tenants, the meeting which was later held between the outgoing President Lungu and President-elect Hakainde Hichilema in the company of other local and international delegates speaks to the country unity that all Zambians should be proud of,” he said.

Mr Mweetwa also thanked President Lungu for facilitating a peaceful general election saying that many people made negative predications.

“The deployment of soldiers was a good move because peace was maintained, I want to advise the law enforcement agencies to take charge of the security situation in the country, those that want to commit crimes in the name of being affiliated to the UPND Alliance should be arrested,” he said.

And Mr Mweetwa regretted the recent incidences of violence and looting in some parts of the country.

He said those behind the unfortunate incidences are doing so on their own and the law will take its course.

“The alliance will not undertake a political witch hunt against anyone but allow the investigative wings to do their job, let me re-emphasize the need for public places such as bus stations and markets to operate as such and not be infiltrated by political parties, the local authorities should proactively take charge of public places so that they can raise revenue to enhance their services,” he said.
