Over 100 death permits issued during third wave -CMC

Chililabombwe Municipal Council says it has issued over 100 death permits since the beginning of Covid-19 third wave.

CMC Director of Public Health Gift Sakanyi said that there has been a rapid increase in the number of death permits issued by the local authority between the month of June and July.

“Before the third wave, the department was issuing about 35 death permits in a month, but a total of 135 and 57 permits were issued in the months of June and July respectively,” he said.

Dr Sakanyi said that the municipality has recorded an increase in the number of unclaimed bodies during the same period.

He said 22 unclaimed bodies have been recorded in the past 2 months.

Dr Sakanyi however said that with the recent reduction in the number of covid cases countrywide, the numbers are likely to decrease.

He also said the council will continue ensuring that members of the public do not relax in adhering to the health guidelines.

Dr Sakanyi also said that the local authority will continue conducting patrols and persecuting people breaking the law.
