Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) National Coordinator Chanda Kabwe says Government will take up funeral expenses for the 6 people who died in an accident involving a Nakonde bound bus and a Tanzanian registered Scania Truck.
Mr Kabwe said Government will provide coffins and other logistical support to the funeral houses to ease the burden on the families.
“I want to direct the DMMU Regional Coordinator for Muchinga Province and Shiwang’andu District Commissioner to collaborate and quickly submit the budget to my office for all the funeral expenses,” he said.
Mr Kabwe also directed Chinsali District Commissioner to work with the District Health Director to ensure that survivors of the accident who may require evacuation are helped.
The accident occurred on Sunday afternoon and involved was a Mbwe Motors bus bound for Nakonde and a Tanzanian truck.
Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) said preliminary investigations into the accident have established that the driver of the bus with registrations mark AIC61ZM lost control after trying to avoid a head-on-collision with the oncoming truck
