The Medical theatre room at Kawambwa district hospital has been destroyed, following a heavy downpour that characterized the area over the weekend.
Kawambwa district Town Council Chairman Kalumba Chifumbe said the heavy rains lasted for about an hour, destroying various equipment in the process.
ZANIS reports that Mr Chifumbe added that the heavy downpour also partly damaged one of the classrooms block at Ng’ona Secondary School.
The Council Chairperson further stated that the damage to the theatre room has halted medical operations at the health facility.
He has expressed sadness over the development, adding that residents in the area have been robbed of a critical health care service.
Mr Chifumbe has since appealed to Kawambwa residents not to panic as government will do everything possible to normalise operations at the hospital.
