Chingola council to construct 3 Bridges

By IREEN MULENGA
Chingola Municipal Council is set to commence the construction of three bridges in Chingola district in a bid to ease the movement of residents through the dilapidated crossing points.

Chingola Municipal Council Town Clerk Kabombo Mutakela said that the construction of bridges is financed locally from Community Development Funds (CDF).

Mr Mutakela said that the Local Authority has embarked on constructing bridges for the locals to mitigate the challenges the residents are facing when it comes to movement from one area to another.

“The Council has sourced for funds through CDF so that we have a bridge in Lulamba, Luano and Chifisa and as for Chifisa bridge it will ease the moment of farmers in the area to the nearest  market places,” he added.

He said about three million Kwacha will be spent on the construction of the three (3) bridges and the contractors will be on site next week.

” We are assuring our residents that the construction of the bridges is set to commence next week and will be completed by the end of this year as we all know that we are slowly approaching the rain season which makes it’s difficult to move through these crossing points, he noted,” he said.

Meanwhile a resident of Luano Agnes Kaluluma thanked the Council for the incoming project and requested that they expedite their works.

Ms Kaluluma said it is challenging to use the existing bridge during rainy season as it is in a dilapidated state.

” We are greatful that Council has brought equipment on site to work on the bridge because most of the time our school going children suffer most as they have to use different routes to access their schools thereby covering long distances to get to school, ” she said.

Ms Kaluluma  has since appealed to the Local Authority to expedite its works on constructing Lulamba bridge.
