Housing and Infrastructure Development Permanent Secretary Danny Mfune says improved rural road connectivity is critical in opening up rural areas for investment.
Mr Mfune says improved road connectivity is also cardinal to enhancing easy delivery of agricultural inputs and other goods and services.
“Government has since called on the Road Development Agency (RDA) to intensify supervision of road works under the World Bank-funded Improved Rural Connectivity project.
Mr Mfune, was happy with progress made on the road by the contractor China Geo Construction, and said this will improve the socio-economic livelihood of the people.
He was speaking in Petauke, Eastern province shortly after inspecting the Petauke-Mumbi-Mwajabantu road which falls under the improved rural road connectivity project.
And Road Development Agency (RDA) Chief Executive Officer George Manyele said so far,18 kilometers has been done out of the total stretch of 20.4 kilometers at a cost of 180 million kwacha.
“The Agency is determined to carry out inspection on all road works countrywide, the Petauke-Mumbi road falls under package three which covers 324 kilometers of roads to be worked on in Eastern province, over 4,200 kilometers of roads across the country will be worked on by the contractor China Geo construction,” he said.
