I don’t care if my political career is affected over KCM-Nchanga MP

By ALICE NACHILMBE
Nchanga Member of Parliament Chali Chilombo says he does not care if his desire to take a private member motion to parliament against Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) will cost his political career
.

Speaking on Shekinah Radio this after in Chingola, Mr Chilombo said as the people’s representative he has to do what is right for the people of Zambia and Nchanga.

He said that taking the motion to parliament is acting within his powers as the people’s representative let the people decide on the fate of KCM.

The Law Maker said that he doesn’t care whether taking the motion to task will tarnish his political career because his duty is to get what belongs to the people he represents.

Mr Chilombo said some businessmen have lost properties due to bank loans just because KCM did not pay them on time.

“If a senior government official like Mines Minister gives an ultimatum to an investor and the company is not following then where can we go? Our Mine Minister was was here and KCM to pay suppliers and contractors but we are still waiting,” he said.

He said if KCM was to leave it is not the mine that is going but the company.

“People are not happy with KCM and it is not only in Chingola but many people are affected. The company has done nothing apart from building a 1X3 classroom block and tarring roads leading to its two Trust schools between 9th and 10th Streets,” he said.
