Fans Welcomes Micho Departure

By Mercy Chewe

The Zambia Football Fans Association (ZAFFA) has supported FAZ’s decision to fire Milutin “Micho” Sredojevic as Chipolopolo coach.

Micho was fired over the weekend following Chipolopolo’s embarrassing 2021 COSAFA Cup outing in South Africa where they lost to Eswatini and Lesotho.

The Serb was appointed Chipolopolo coach in February, 2020.

ZAFFA General Secretary Chawezi Katwizi has since proposed that local coaches be hired in an interim capacity to lead Zambia in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

“We are happy with the move FAZ has made. As fans we always want to see good results from the national team. Micho was given everything by FAZ,” Katwizi said.

“He was given friendly matches and given a pool of players to select from.”

Katwizi believes coaches Wedson Nyirenda and Beston Chambeshi can handle the National Team.

“We hope to see an interim coach because there is no time before the World Cup qualifiers. Let’s have two local coaches Wedson Nyirenda and Beston Chambeshi to handle the National Team,” he said.

“Let’s use World Cup qualifiers to prepare for the next Africa Cup,” Katwizi added.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers are starting in September.
