Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic’s days as Chipolopolo coach appear numbered after his team’s embarrassing display at the ongoing COSAFA Cup in South Africa.
A social media campaign has already heightened to have Micho fired by FAZ.
The Serb was hired 18 months ago with the task of reviving the dwindling performance of the Zambia National Soccer Team.
As if Zambia’s failure to qualify for the Africa Cup was not enough earlier this year, the results being posted by Micho’s team have graduated from bad to worse.
Zambia’s losses to the kingdoms of Eswatini and Lesotho at the COSAFA Cup in the last seven days have not settled down well with soccer fans.
Micho himself has admitted pressure after the 1-0 loss to Eswatini which came a day after the 2-1 defeat to Lesotho.
“When we talk about pressure, pressure is always in this job,” Micho told journalists at the COSAFA Cup.
Sources close to FAZ have revealed that the association is tabling the possibility of firing the former Uganda coach.
Not even wins against Botswana or South Africa in the remaining Group A COSAFA Cup matches may save Micho from the axe.
“Regardless of a win over Botswana on Tuesday, momentum must be constant on an inquest into the scandalous results against Lesotho and Eswatini at the 2021 COSAFA Cup,” wrote veteran football journalist Kalumiana Kalumiana.
Chipolopolo appear set to let go of the COSAFA Cup trophy won in 2019 under Coach Aggrey Chiyangi.
Meanwhile, Zambia is a month away from kicking off the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
