Micho sorry after Zambia’s loss again

By Mercy Chewe

Zambia National Team coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic is apologizing to soccer fans in the wake of his team’s surprising 1-0 loss to Eswatini at the COSAFA Cup in South Africa.

Defending champions are bottom of Group A with no points after a 2-1 loss to Lesotho in their opening game three days ago.

In a post-match interview, Micho said he has taken the responsibility and won’t blame anyone for Zambia’s embarrassing loss to the Kingdom of Eswatini.

“I cannot blame anyone. I can only say players really tried their best. Unfortunately the best of our players was not enough to get us a better result today,” he said.

“I would like to use this opportunity to apologise to our supporters back home that we have lost the game,” Micho said.

The Serb argued that carrying a strong squad for the COSAFA Cup was not a guarantee that Zambia would get positive results.

“It is not about how strong you are, it is about what you put on the field of play. And it is all about results,” Micho said.

He added: “When we talk about pressure, pressure is always in this job.”

Zambia’s next Group A match is against Botswana on July 13 and South Africa on July 14.
