Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) has donated Personal Protective Equipment’s to media houses in Ndola.
This is in a bid protect Journalist against contracting coronavirus while in of duty.
DMMU Regional Coordinator George Akalemwa said the media have been consistent in dissemination of information to the public on Covid19 hence they should be protected.
“This is part of more than 500,000 face masks which were given to the province by the National coordinator and for further interventions, we have also released more than 20,000 to each of the ten districts in the province,” he said.
And Copperbelt Permanent Secretary Bright Nundwe said there is need to safeguard the lives of Journalists as they execute duties in the view of corona virus.
Mr Nundwe said Government will continue to support Journalist during the course of their duty during this difficult period.
“Journalists are front liners who are also prone to Covid19, but cautiously all lives should be protected. Government will provide all gadgets that constitute for a journalist to be protected,” he said.
And Zambia Daily Mail reporter Chimwemwe Mwale thanked Government for their proactive efforts to protect the media.
“Such a gesture imparts positively on our institutions and gives us a muscle to carry out our job effectively,” he said.
Zambia News and Information Services, Times of Zambia, Sun FM, Radio Phoenix, Radio Icengelo, Roaster FM and The Independent Observer were the media institution that received the PPEs.
Some of donated items include facemasks, hand sanitizer and food stuffs.
