Govt invests K14m in Mulungushi textiles

Over K14, 000 has been injected into Zambia China Mulungushi Textiles Limited in Kabwe, Central Province to boost operations at the ginnery.

The government has pumped in K10, 000 while the Chinese government has invested 4.5 million Kwacha into the factory.

President Edgar Lungu says the gesture is meant to honor the vision of Dr Kenneth Kaunda and Mao Zedong who initiated the company.

“The friendship the two leaders cultivated, has prompted government to revamp the Mulungushi textiles in honoring the two leaders, the funds will go towards purchasing cotton for the ginnery from farmers in Central Province,” he said.

President Lungu said this in a speech read on his behalf by Defense Permanent Secretary Felix Phiri at the handover of the cheques and flagging off of the cotton purchasing exercise for the Company in Kabwe.

And Central Province Permanent Secretary Bernard Chomba has challenged management to sustain operations at the factory.

Chinese Representative Yitong Yang said the partnership between the two government’s show the growing bilateral relations.
