Nkana Survival a Lesson – Malitoli

By Mercy Chewe
Former Nkana star defender Mordon Malitoli says his old club must learn from their dramatic 2020/21 FAZ Super Division in which they survived relegation on the final day.

Kalampa, the 13-time league champions, survived on Sunday after a draw at Napsa Stars as Indeni lost 3-2 against Kabwe Warriors and Young Eagles recorded a 0-0 draw at home against Lusaka Dynamos.

In an interview from Kitwe, Malitoli, who won seven league titles with Nkana, said the Wusakile Boys must learn to win more games in the first round.

“This is a lesson to start winning games as the season is starting,” he said.

“We lost some games we could have won easily. At some point we went for ten games without a win,” Malitoli said.

Nkana picked up more points in the last quarter of the season compared to the first round.

The team finished with 45 points from 34 matches played.

Malitoli further saluted the impact coach Beston Chambeshi has made at Nkana after he was hired to replace the fired Kelvin Kaindu last April.

“He used the same players he found except for Alex Ng’onga who joined the team late. He has been in football for a long time as a player and coach,” Malitoli said.

Chambeshi rejoined a Nkana side that had collected just 21 points from 21 matches and was second from the bottom of the table.
