The Kitwe City Council is processing charges for 27 Bars and Night clubs for breach of the enhanced public health security measures announced by Government.
KCC Public Relations Manager Chola Mwamba said there was blatant overcrowding, breach of Social distancing, no masking, inadequate or no hand washing facilities or sanitizers, loud music causing patrons to shout when communicating thereby increasing the risk splashing droplets from the mouth.
Ms Mwamba said the Local Authority is processing charges for the offenders to show cause why they should not be prosecuted.
She said operators of bars, Taverns, night clubs and social liquor clubs that Statutory Instrument No. 51 of 2020, the Liquor Licensing), Regulations, 2020 is still in force and by operation of this law, all bars, night clubs and social liquor clubs are closed.
Ms Mwamba said all those who defy the enhanced public health security measures announced by Government on the fight against the spread of Covid-19 allowing them to operate Friday to Sunday 18:00 to 22:00 hours with strict observance of the golden rules are on the frolic of their own.
“Operators of bars, night clubs and social clubs who disregard the enhanced public health security measures are hereby warned that the Local Authority will unleash the long arm of the law on them. Those who will want to continue with the business after their premises are closed will have to consider applying for take away bottle store (retail liquor) or wholesale liquor licenses if they are to avoid a complete shut down,” she said
