World Youth and Leadership Foundation has called for strengthened parental guidance in order to fight against teenage pregnancy as schools partially close.
WYLF Director General Nalishebo Nyambe urged parents to closely monitor and interact with their daughters at all costs so that the young girls are adequately protected from any form of sexual abuse.
Mr Nyambe said in as much as organizations are putting more effort, the law enforcement agencies should also tighten laws surrounding Teenage pregnancy to ensure that both perpetrators face equal treatment.
He said in Zambia childbearing starts early and teenage pregnancy is common, particularly in rural areas and in urban Townships.
Mr Nyambe said that most of the victims of teenage pregnancy fall pregnant because of lack of proper parental guidance.
He said the organization believe that homes and churches play a vital role when it comes to guiding and counseling children.
Mr Nyambe said that the first schools of guidance and counselling which are supposed to guide, mentor and turn children into role models in the community in the fight against Teen pregnancies are these particular institutions.
