FRA in Eastern province praised

The Food Reserve Agency and government in Eastern Province has been praised by some farmers in the province for the good crop prices the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) is offering this marketing season.

FRA Eastern Regional Coordinator Rayford Phiri said the agency will operate in 170 satellite depots in the province.

“FRA in Eastern Province has finalized the preparations for the marketing season and that all field staff have been trained and already positioned in the satellite depots in readiness for crop purchasing, the agency has engaged some banks to provide mobile banking services in the districts where there are no banks,” he said.

Mr Phiri called on farmers to deliver clean maize to avoid delays at the satellite depots resulting from cleaning maize at the centers.

And Eastern Province Acting Provincial Agricultural Coordinator Bisa Bwalya said the FRA is the only buyer offering highest prices on the market so far in Eastern Province.

“The average price offered by most private buyers is 120 Kwacha per 50kg bag of maize, therefore want to urge farmers in Eastern Province to sell their maize to FRA so that they can make profits,” she said.
