Pregnant woman, killed in Masaiti

Police in Masaiti have picked up the body of a 28-year-old pregnant woman who was found dead in the bush few meters from a tavern.

The body of a six months pregnant woman was found with bruises on both knees and legs, swollen private part with blood oozing from the private part.

Unknown object was used to inflict the injuries on the body and the boyfriend has been detained to help with investigations.

Police Spokesperson Esther Katongo said it is alleged that on June 8, 2021 at about 2200 hours Mirriam Ngalande was at James Tarven on a drinking spree with her intimate partner John Nyondo 23 (suspect) of Simukoko village.

Ms Katongo said  Ngalande and Nyondo were last seen leaving the Tavern whilst quarrelling, the boyfriend who is now the suspect in this matter, suspected his partner of having an affair with another man.

He said the body of the victim was found by members of the public lying dead in the bush near the same Tavern.

“The victim is also reported to have been six  months pregnant. The body has been picked and deposited in Ibenga Hospital Mortuary awaiting postmortem,” he said.

Police launched a manhunt and managed to arrest the suspect in Kafulafuta.
