Ministry of Higher Education says Mulungushi University will carry on with its scheduled Sessional Examinations tomorrow despite an uproar from concerned parties.

Ministry of Higher Education Permanent Secretary Kayula Siame said her office received complaints from some students and sponsors regarding the University’s inability to allow those who have not paid at least 80-percent of their tuition fees to sit for the examinations.

“Ministry has communicated with University Management and agreed that the Sessional Exams will proceed starting today and will go on for two weeks, for only students who have paid at least 80 percent of the fees in line with the University Policy, students who have not paid 80 percent will write deferred exams on dates to be determined by University Senate,” she said.

Ms Siame said that students who have financial resources should pay now adding that sponsors of students should take advantage of the flexible payment plan.

“The inability by sponsors to pay students’ fees on time has the potential to compromise the quality of education being provided by Public Universities,” she said.
