The Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission (CEEC) and the Water Resources Management Authority (WARMA) have signed a memorandum of understanding for beneficiaries of Aquaculture, irrigation and other water-oriented empowerment projects.
The MoU will ensure that the beneficiaries adhere to legal requirements related to the Water resources management Act.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, Ministry of Water Development, Sanitation and Environmental Protection Permanent Secretary Mabvuto Sakala said the MoU will facilitate for effective and efficient undertaking of institutional mandates by CEEC and WARMA
“This will consequently provide the much needed support to facilitate the implementation of the empowerment projects, improved water resources development and management remains vital in contributing to economic diversification and job creation,” he said.
Ministry of Commerce Acting Permanent Secretary Paul Lupunga said the MoU will make it necessary that CEEC requests for the acquisition of water permits from applicants in the water oriented empowerment projects.
“CEEC has made it possible for one thousand one hundred and forty seven businesses to be developed along the aquaculture value chain,” he said.
WARMA Director General Kenneth Nyundu said the signing of the MoU will see all beneficiaries being guaranteed necessary permits to secure their water resources.
And, CEEC Director General Likando Mukumbuta said as part of its financing to empowerment beneficiaries, the Commission will include the WARMA fees to bring about efficiency.
