Ensure peace and order in August polls -Kanganja

Inspector General of police Kakoma Kanganja says that police Officers should ensure that peace and order prevails in this year’s general elections.

Speaking when he addressed the officers in Chipata Eastern Province today, Mr Kanganja said police Officers should execute their duties diligently and professionally.

“As Zambia police we have a huge task ahead of August polls, the police plays an important role in ensuring that you maintain law and order, also discipline among yourselves,” he said.

Mr Kanganja said that the police should work in collaboration with all political parties and other stakeholders well, before, during and after elections.

He said among the stakeholders that includes the media, the civil societies and NGOs.

Mr Kanganja said that the police must also collaborate well with Community at all times, and not to work in isolation.

He said Officers are expected to show high levels of discipline amongst themselves in order to have violent free elections.

Mr Kanganja said that Officers projected to ensure that all the door to door campaigns are well regulated and coordinated.

He has appealed to all political players and the general public at large to follow the Covid-19 guidelines which has been put in place by the health authorities.
