ECZ should take charge of the electro processes

Dear Editor
I write with utter disappointment with the Electoral Commission of Zambia for its failure or rather negligence to enforce electoral code of conduct equally to all participating political players in this year’s general election.

This has raised a lot of complaints from most electoral stakeholders except one. As these complains emanate, ECZ unfortunately is seen to carry business as usual, exhibiting arrogance tenets.
Precedence, whether legally supported by law or not entails that it is upheld to avoid speculations and purported machinations by those with the authority to manage free and fair elections; in this case the ECZ.
For example, all sane adult Zambians know that Presidential aspirants in every elections declare their assets and liabilities which ECZ alternatively make known to the general public. The affidavit for nominations has had a clause which states “I have not been elected, sworn in and held office twice”, which has ambiguosly been removed in this year’s affidavit.
ECZ is also seen not to have a voice on the new campaign modalities which are now left with the police who unfortunately are under the close eye of the Commander In Chief, who is also a candidate in this year’s elections.
It won’t be surprising to see ECZ battling legal suits with political parties immediately 12th August general elections are announcenced because of their failure to resolve the raised issues.
ECZ should for once exibit professionalism and fairness in how they conduct these elections taking in account that thesde are not elections for an individual or a single political party but for the general populous of this great nation called Zambia by levelling the electoral playing ground.
Let ECZ pull the electoral shot, and not the police.
