The boxing fraternity will tomorrow go for polls to elect new office bears with incumbent president Kennedy Mubita facing stiff competition from his deputy Dan Chiteule for the top job.
Zambia Boxing Federation (ZBF) president Mubita has come and scrutiny from stakeholders for his leadership style and many other issues during his tenure.
According to ZBF general secretary Bright Chomba,the elective annual general meeting is scheduled for Kabwe Lodge and will start at 10:00 hours.
“Kindly take note that nominations have closed today and I have since submitted all the documents I received to National Sports Council of Zambia. So, we are set for an elective AGM, on 29/5/21 at Kabwe Lodge starting at 10 :00 hours,” read a circular sent to the affiliates by Chomba.
He said clubs who are in good books with the federation will attend the eagerly anticipated AGM.
Chiteule is the sole challenger to Mubita, who replaced Thomas Chileshe four years ago.
Chiteule is favourite to triumph but based on events of previous AGMs it is not clear if he will be allowed to dethrone Mubita with relatively easy.
On the other hand Mubita is confident he will continue in office after tomorrow because he has scored unprecedented success in the last four years among qualifying three boxers to the Tokyo Olympics for the first time in the history of Zambian boxing.
Boxers Stephen Zimba,Everisto Mulenga and Patrick Chinyemba have all booked their tickets to the Olympics.
Other positions that will be up for grabs at the meeting are vice-president, general secretary,vice general secretary, treasurer and vice treasurer.
The agenda of the meeting is elections but some clubs such Oriental Queries Boxing Promotion petitioned NSCZ to direct ZBF to also include audited financial reports for the last four years and discussions on the amended constitution which has brought about some much debates.
