The Kapiri Mposhi Town Council has procured a two hectare piece of land at the total cost of K90, 000 for the construction of a truck parking port.
The truck park is expected to provide secure parking services for truckers passing through the district and time for truck drivers to refresh during stop overs.
Kapiri Mposhi Town Council Public Relations Officer Nelly Nkolongo said Kapiri being the transit Town; it records high traffic of both local and international trucks accessing the Central and East Africa routes via the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Tanzania respectively.
Ms Nkolongo said the development will therefore answer to calls by the Truckers Association of Zambia that has been engaging the Local Authority to construct a truck park in order to ease their process of collecting goods in transit fees from truckers.
“Furthermore, the construction of the truck park will increase the revenue base for the local authority for enhanced service provision in the district in view of the fees earmarked to be collected at the facility,” he said.
