The Health Professions Council of Zambia (HCPZ(has urged Resident Doctors Association of Zambia members to call off their planned go-slow and allow amicable dialogue to prevail.
Council Registrar Bwembya Bwembya says if taken, the action will affect the standard of service that patients are supposed to receive from health institutions.
“Those who want to take part in the protest should be reminded that the action is against Part II of the Professional Code of Ethics and Discipline, HPCZ will not hesitate to invoke Sections of the Health Professions Act No. 24 of 2009 which give the Council powers to cancel the registration and practicing certificates for offenders,” he said.
Mr Bwembya said the Council has been informed that the Ministry of Health has already started addressing the issues raised by the affected doctors .
“It will be unacceptable for the affected doctors to pursue their planned go-slow especially at this point when the health system is already stretched by Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.
The Resident Doctors Association of Zambia have planned a go slow scheduled for tomorrow Monday 24, 2021 if their matter is not addressed.
