ZACA bemoans spike of tomato prices on the market

By MAIMBO MWEEMBA
The Zambia Consumer Association (ZACA) Executive Secretary Juba Sakala has bemoaned the spike of tomatoes on the markets describing it as a disheartening situation.

Mr Sakala said the merchants on different markets are finding it very difficult to reduce the prices for tomatoes as they are ordering them at a high cost.

“People should not complain and condemn marketers instead they should consider the fact that they also buy from farmers who have also increased their prices. I wish to appeal to different farmers to consider the marketers all over the country to reduce the prices of this product.

“The public should keep calm as the local government is working tirelessly to ensure that everything is in place. Government gave a directive to all the farmers not to exploit vegetables and fruits,” he said.

He implored the farmers all around should adhere to the directives from the government and help supplement government efforts in ensuring that the country has commodities of fruits and vegetables.
