Only three are contesting for the Mwinilunga Town Council chairmanship in the August, 12 polls.
This is after the trio had successfully filed in their nominations.
The Socialist Party (SP) has continued with a seeming resolve to appoint young people to political leadership with their 27 years old candidate, Jevan Kabong’u filing in his nomination at 12:30 hours.
Mr Kabong’u said Mwinilunga has a lot of potential areas which if harnessed can improve the economic outlook of the district.
“This is a great district with a lot of potential. We have big plans for it through our manifesto” he said.
Mr Kabong’u said it is time for young people to take up leading roles in decision making because they are the future.
He added that the Socialist Party through its manifesto has good plans which when given chance to rule will transform the country’s economy positively.
He called for peaceful campaigns and urged fellow youths to vote for him.
Earlier, United Party for National Development (UPND) candidate who is the immediate past council deputy chairperson, Jonathan Chinyimba filed in his nomination at 11:30 hours.
Mr Chinyimba said in an interview that the love the people in the area have for him gives him confidence of scooping the seat.
“I have massive support, even during the primary elections my numbers were high and I am still enjoying people’s support”, he said.
Mr Chinyimba added that the massive support he received from all the wards during the entire adoption process revealed that people wanted him to continue leading them.
The 43 years old aspirant called for unity of purpose among the people in the district if meaningful development should be attained.
He requested fellow participants in the race to be peaceful throughout the entire electoral process.
Meanwhile, Patriotic Front (PF) candidate, Patron Chikolwizu was last to file in his nomination before returning officer Kennedy Kazanda at 14:00 hours.
Mr Chikolwizu expressed gratitude to President Edgar Lungu and the party for adopting him and promised to serve the people of Mwinilunga.
“I promise I am going to serve the people and I am going to meet their expectations”, he said.
Mr Chikolwizu said he will make sure he wins the hearts of the electorates in the district to vote for the PF.
He said there is no doubt that he together with his party (PF) will emerge victorious in the elections due to growing popularity.
Mr Chikolwizu ,42, said if elected as council chairperson his priority task will be to work on the roads leading to the palaces and lobby for a bigger district hospital.
He pledged to conduct his campaigns in a peaceful manner and called on fellow contestants to do the same/ZANIS.
