Human Rights activist and good governance advocate Geshom Phiri says youths have a greater role to play in the electoral process of the country as they command a majority population
Mr Phiri said that the future of Zambia depends on the decisions that youths will make now, urging the youth to be level headed.
“Youths are not like politicians who have their loyalty to their political parties, but the youth have the right to remain loyal to the country,” he said
Mr Phiri encouraged youths to remain focused and practice issue based politics as the country nears the August polls.
“There is a need for the youths to ensure that they are not used as tools of violence but rather demand for ideas that will better their lives during campaigns as well as after the elections”, he said.
Mr Phiri called on youths to challenge politicians to practice issue based campaigns and not violence as seen from previous elections.
“Politicians should use youths as tools to spread unity and foster a better tomorrow unlike, encouraging them to cause unrest in the country before, during and after the August 12 elections,” he said.
Mr Phiri appreciated the Patriotic Front for adopting a number of youths to compete in the forthcoming general elections.
