Super Division team Kabwe Warriors have sent coach Levy ‘Chabby’ Chabala on administrative leave and appointed Ian Bakala as caretaker coach.

Warriors are seventh on the log with 35 points, 11 points behind leaders Zesco United.

Warriors’ chief executive officer Charles Chakatazya confirmed the development in a statement issued by club media and public relations officer Kelvin Musako that the changes are aimed at improving the performance of the team.

“The decision to send Mr Chabala on leave was made by the Kabwe Warriors executive committee to improve the performance of the team.

“We wish the new coach all the best and we have confidence that he will steer the team to the rightful position the team deserves,” Chakatazya said.

He said Bakala, who was unveiled as first assistant last week will be in-charge of the team in an interim capacity.

Warriors have however, not stated the duration of Chabala’s administrative leave which starts effective on 27 April 27, 2021.

The Kabwe outfit has lost their last two matches to Buildcon and Forest Rangers, 2-0 and 1-0 respectively.

Chabala’s last game in-charge was against Forest at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Sunday.

Chabala was elevated to the position of head coach after the sacking of Tenant Chilumba last season.

Warriors were eliminated from the ABSA Cup quarter-finals after losing 6-5 on penalties to Zanaco following a 2-all draw in regulation time.
