UPPZ unhappy with Police reluctance to give them permit

UNITED Prosperous and Peaceful Zambia (UPPZ) in Solwezi, is dismayed by the Zambia Police reluctance in issuing them with a police permit to hold a party meeting in the province.

Provincial Chairperson Henry Chipela said that the UPPZ in Solwezi has been pushing for a police permit for two weeks and were given a go ahead on Friday last week after 16hrs to hold the meeting.

He said the meeting did not take place because things were not in place on Saturday and Sunday.

“We had to appeal to have the meeting on Friday this week so that we can have enough time to prepare because we have officials coming from far places like Chavuma, Zambezi and we have to also put all the requirements in place,” he said.

Mr Chipela said that the police command has told them not hold the meeting on Friday because the vice president is expected to be in the province.

He said it is a source of concern that the opposition is being denied the opportunity to hold their meetings while the ruling PF are having mobilization meetings on daily basis countrywide without police permits.

Mr Chipela has tasked the Police Service to accord all political parties’ fair play and not only the ruling party.

He said the Public Order Act should be applied equally without favoring anybody.

This is contained in a statement issued by Henry Chipela Provincial Chairperson North –Western.
