Clean water for Eastern Province-Nakachinda

Minister of Water Development Sanitation and Environmental Protection Raphael Nakachinda has promised to give 100 percent of clean and safe water to Eastern province.

He was speaking today after paying a courtesy call on Chief Nyamphande in Eastern Province to look into the water problem in the Petauke and Lusangaza area.

He said water is life and it’s important that people receive clean water as stipulated under the vision of 2030

Mr Nakachinda said that water is cardinal and there is no economic activities that can take place without water in be it agriculture, Mining and other sectors.

And His Royal Highness Nyamphande said that the area needs more dams sprinted in the area so that they can improve on Agriculture in order to elevate poverty.

He said also mentioned the need for more boreholes to be sunk to help in irrigation system.

Chief Nyamphande said that they need incentives in rural areas from the government to improve their standard of living.

“We need to be given resources as farmers so that we invest in it. Enough water, as well as agriculture projects so that our youths can benefits from it, “he said.

Mr Nakachinda assured the chief to repair the seven dams that have collapsed and the 58 dams in order to make them viable for agriculture purposes.

He said the proposal has been made from his Ministry and hopes to commence the works soon.

The Chief commended the Minster for vising the area and the Member of Parliament for accompanying the Minister.

Government is on course to sink 1300 boreholes countrywide in order for people to have access to safe and clean water under the vision of Zambia water by 2030.
