Tottenham Hotspur have fired manager Jose Mourinho after a tumultuous 18 months in charge of the club. The decision not only includes Mourinho, but also all of his assistants, including Joao Sacramento, Nuno Santos, Carlos Lalin, and Giovanni Cerra.
The decision to fire Mourinho and his assistants was apparently made Friday evening after Spurs’ listless 2-2 draw against Everton at Goodison Park, but has been coming for a long time.
There has been a ton of reporting suggesting that Spurs brass has been dissatisfied with the results Mourinho has accomplished since joining the club in November of 2019, but this also appears to be further confirmation that he lost the support of the Tottenham players as well.
Tottenham just fired their manager, but somehow this is still the SECOND biggest news to come out of the weekend after the club’s decision to join with the other so-called Big Six Premier League clubs to join a newly formed breakaway Super League as Founding Members.
Despite the seeming coincidence, Fabrizio Romano is reporting that the two decisions are not related. Romano also waved away early reports announced on Sky Sports that Mourinho was fired after a bust-up with Daniel Levy where he refused to train his players on Monday; this story is reportedly wide of the mark.
With Mou and his assistants gone, the club will be managed by a team consisting of Tottenham Head of U18 Coaching Chris Powell, and U18 manager (and current player) Ryan Mason.
This comes with Spurs set to play in the Carabao Cup final this coming weekend against Manchester City in front of 8000 football fans, including 2000 Tottenham fans, the first time that Spurs have played in front of an actual crowd since before Christmas. Powell and Mason will lead Spurs out in their first match in charge this Wednesday in a Premier League match against Southampton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
