Struggling Super Division giants Nkana have sent Head Coach Kelvin Kaindu on a three-weeks leave after recording a string of poor results among them losing to bottom placed Kitwe United.
Nkana embarrassingly lost 2-1 to Kitwe, who prior to the match were winless in 22 matches.
‘Buchi Boys’ Kitwe came from behind to stun their rivals in a derby at Arthur Davies Stadium yesterday.
Kaindu was appointed this season replacing Manfred Chabinga, who was sacked after failing to inspire the champions to a promising start to the campaign.
Nkana acting Chief Executive Officer Kapwepwe Mutale said in a statement issued by club Media Officer Lillian Musenge that Kaindu agreed to proceed on a paid leave after the club requested him to do so in view of the bad patch.
“Kaindu has agreed to proceed on leave in view of a string of bad results that the team has posted in the recent past,” read part of the statement.
Mutale said assistant Coach Kaunda Simonda will act as head coach and will be assisted by Young Nkana head coach, Fidelis ‘Josima’ Chungu.
He said the physical trainer Joseph Musonda has been redirected to the junior team in the same capacity and has been replaced by Nkana gym instructor and physical trainer Chewe Mwamba. “All these developments and restructuring process have been instituted in order to save the senior team from being relegated,” Mutale further said.
Nkana are second from bottom with 21 points.
Simonda will start his second reign as caretaker coach with an away fixture to Lumwana Radiants on Sunday.
