Zambia’s High Commissioner to India Judith Kapijimpanga has congratulated India for the construction of the longest tunnel in the world which has demonstrated India’s engineering prowess in extremely high altitudes.
Ms Kapijimpanga said Zambia was happy with the project because Shapoorji Pallonji Group-run AFCONS which worked on the tunnel in India was also constructing fly over bridges and expanding existing roads to decongest Lusaka.
She said Atal Tunnel, Rohtang in India’s Himachal Pradesh became the longest tunnel in the world above Ten Thousand Fit height and was now a tourist attraction.
The High Commissioner said the Atal Tunnel, Rohtang, was 9 kilometres long with two kilometres mountain load over it, making it unique.
And Ms Kapijimpanga said the tunnel built by the Border Road Organisation had a global benchmark in tunneling and engineering in very high altitudes.
She said the tunnel which was situated close to Manali in India and connecting the picturesque Lahul- Spiti Valley, made the infrastructure a great tourist attraction.
Ms Kapijimpanga said this when Defence Secretary in the Ministry of Defence, Government of India, Dr Ajay Kumar, availed her with the video of India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurating the tunnel.
